IncredABILITIES uses real life classroom experiences to create communication systems that will be successful for your child. Utilizing your child's strengths and a special color coding system, every child can learn to communicate with others.

How We Got Started

In 2007, incredABILITIES founder Sarah Smith befriended a woman named Marie who has a son with autism. She was constantly wishing that her child could communicate. Sarah suggested a communication book. She said that everything had been tried and that her son just didn't understand it all. Sarah wanted to try it.

Sarah created a book that had TOBI (True Object Based Icons – pictures that are cut out as the shape they represent) pictures for her son to help him visually discriminate due to a suspected vision problem. Sarah put TV characters on the front of the book to increase the level of interest in using the book, then designed and implemented a communication book and implementation system for her son to use.

Within two weeks of using the system and following the steps of Sarah's individualized program, her son was communicating for the first time in his life. IncredABILITIES was formed with special children like this little guy in mind. Sarah's classroom experiences and other training have given incredABILITIES the knowledge to put together dynamic customized systems to meet kids' needs. The goal of incredABILITIES is for the communication systems to be tailored to meet the needs of the individual child.
